Homegrown in Ajax Pickering - Team Ontario's #6 Kaitlyn McGillen
Submitted By Chrissy Moutsatsos on Thursday, November 01, 2018
Her nickname is “Smiley”.

Kaitlyn McGillen earned that nickname from one of her ringette coaches because she’s always smiling.  Even when that coach thought he could wipe the smile off her face, the harder he worked her on ice, the more she smiled!

Kaitlyn’s hard work and passion for ringette paid off this year.  She is the only player from Central Region to make Team Ontario.

She has played on Central Region AA since U14AA and is currently playing on the U19AA team.  She played on the Central Region AAA team last season for the Ontario Winter Games.  And in February, she will be playing in the 2019 Canadian Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta for Team Ontario.

The Ajax Pickering Ringette Association is so very proud of Kaitlyn’s accomplishments, since she began her ringette career at a Come Try Ringette event at O’Brien Arena. She then entered the houseleague program, picked jersey #6, and has loved the sport ever since.

Kaitlyn is 17 years old and in grade 12.  After Team Ontario, she hopes to make her dream come true of making it to the NRL  (National Ringette League) and then one day maybe wearing the maple leaf and playing for Team Canada.

The APRA invites and encourages all ringette players and families to cheer for Kaitlyn and Team Ontario at their exciting games during the Pickering Ringette Tournament this November 30-December 2, 2018.   All games will be played at the Pickering Recreation Centre.  Check for game times on www.score2stats.com and www.apringette.com.
