Reimbursement Policy for Bench Staff Training & Certification

  • Provided coaches correctly apply for the Coaching Association of Ontario’s Quest For Gold Bursary, the Association will reimburse 50% of the remaining out-of pocket expense* for all required coaching courses taken by head coaches and assistant coaches of U12 Provincial Petite, and U14- U19 Regional, Provincial and AA level teams. 
  • The QFG Bursary is currently available to cover up to 70% of course registration fees for the Competition Introduction training (required by U12PP, and U14- U19 Regional, Provincial and AA level head coaches and assistant coaches), and the Competition Introduction evaluation/certification (an additional requirement of AA-level head coaches and assistant coaches). 
  • Coaches must apply for the bursary online within 90 days of course completion, and, prior to March 31st 2018. In the case of AA coaches completing both the CI training and CI evaluation/certification, two separate bursary applications must be submitted for the training and the evaluation.   • Trainers of U12PP, Provincial and AA level teams are also required to be either CSI-Trained (Community Sport Initiation) or CI-Trained (Competition Introduction), or, possess the Hockey Trainers Certification Program (HTCP) Level 1 Certification or higher. 
  • If a trainer chooses to become CI-Trained (recommended) and correctly applies for the CAO’s Quest For Gold Bursary, the Association will reimburse 50% of the remaining out-of pocket expense* for their coaching-related training only (i.e. CI training and MED certification only). 
  • If a trainer chooses to become CSI-Trained, the Association will also reimburse 50% of the remaining out-of pocket expense* for their coaching-related training only (i.e. CSI training and MED certification only). 
  • Note that MED training and certification (Make Ethical Decisions) is recommended but not mandatory for trainers. 

NOTES:

  • The Association will continue to reimburse 100% of the coaching training expense of head coaches and assistant coaches of our U8, U9, U10 and U12 Regional Rep teams, and for those coaches within our House League program.
  • All Rep teams (U8-U19) will continue to pay for all other bench staff certification requirements by utilizing individual team budgets (recommended) (e.g. Manager Certification Course, Trainer-specific Courses (e.g. Standard First Aid Certified), Police Record Checks). 
  • The Association will continue to reimburse for the cost of Police Record Checks for head coaches and assistant coaches in the House League program only.  
  • The Association will review this policy on an annual basis.

Regional, Provincial, AA-level Coaches- 
coaches are to pay for all applicable coaching course fees up front, and must submit the following to either the  Pickering Treasurer (all Regional Teams) or Ajax Treasurer (all Provincial teams): 1) valid coaching course receipts, 2) proof of qualified funding application and 3) acknowledgement of any bursary (if applicable). Indicate your team level and role when submitting the required documents. To receive reimbursement, arrange plans to meet at a convenient time or provide your address to be reimbursed via mail. 

House League Coaches - coaches are to pay for all applicable coaching course fees and Police Record Checks up front, and must submit valid coaching course receipts, and receipts for Police Record Checks to the Pickering Treasurer. Indicate your team level and role when submitting the required documents. To receive reimbursement, arrange plans to meet at a convenient time or provide your address to be reimbursed via mail. 

*Out-of pocket expense applies to course registration fees only. Meals, travel, accommodation, etc. is excluded.
