Be sure to visit the Notice to the Members section of the Ontario Ringette Association website to keep abreast of new Membership Notices, specifically those related to Coaching. Recent examples include:


NEW - 2018 UPDATES TO COACHING QUALIFICATIONS

At the May 2018 ORA Board of Directors meeting, the following coaching motions were passed which will affect the coaching qualifications for bench staff. These include: 
 

1.  Managers must have proper qualifications by November 1 of the playing season.

2.  Team managers will no longer be permitted on the bench for U14AA, U16AA and U19AA during competition.

3.  By November 1, 2020, all U9-U19 teams must have a qualified and dedicated Trainer on their bench. The Trainer must be present for all competitions. It is strongly recommended that all other levels have a Trainer on their bench.

4.  All coaches must be qualified by November 1st of the current playing season. CI Certification deadline is January 15. Qualifications can be found on the Coaching Pathways on the ORA website.

5.  New U12 regional coaches have the option to take a CSI or CI coaching clinic.

6.  To mandate that at the U12P and U14A level, a qualified female head or assistant coach must be on the bench staff by "Registration Date" as specified by ORA Staff, 2019. 

7.  To mandate that at the U16A and U19A level, a qualified female head or assistant coach must be on the bench staff by "Registration Date" as specified by ORA Staff, 2020.

NEW - Fully Served Penalties 

New for the 2017/18 season - During the most recent ORA Board of Directors meeting the following Games & Tournaments motion was passed effective immediately: 

Any four minute fully served penalty that cannot be served during the remaining clock time of the game shall result in a one game suspension. This includes any such fully served penalty assessed after the end of the game. 




NEW- Making Headway in Sport - eLearning Concussion Module

New for 2017/17 season - The Making Head Way Concussion Module has been made mandatory for all Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, CIT's and Trainers.  Managers are strongly recommended to take as well.  This is free and can be accessed here:  http://coach.ca/making-head-way-concussion-elearning-series-p153487 If coaches have already taken this for another sport, they do not need to it complete again; if they have not, it is recommended taking the Sport (Generic) version. Once completed, they can go into their coachingringette.ca profile and mark off give me credit. Bonus - 5 PD points.



NEW- Team Managers on the Bench

Please review the following notice from Ringette Canada regarding Team Managers on the bench. At this time the directive does not apply to ORA sanctioned events and is limited to RC events 
including the Canadian Ringette Championships, NRL Championship and the Canada Winter Games.

Introduction to Coaching Ringette is now Online

Coach Initiation in Sport module is now offered by the Coaching Association of Canada and will officially replace the Ringette Introduction to Coaching Course. The module takes approximately 1 hour to complete.

To celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial birthday, Coach Initiation in Sport is available for FREE for 150 days! As of August 3rd, 2017 the module will cost $15.

Coaches who complete the module, who do not require it (already have completed NCCP coaching courses) will receive PD points.

Fair Ice Policy

NEW and effective immediately, Coaches who are not following the Fair Ice Policy as written are subject to the following penalties:

 

7.7 NUMBER OF OBSERVABLE OFFENSES ON FILE FOR COACH

 

· One (1), official warning issued.
· Two (2), coach suspended for seven (7) days.
· Three (3), coach suspended for thirty (30) days.

· Four (4), coach suspended for one (1) calendar year.

· Five (5), coach suspended for three (3) calendar year.

 


Professional Development

Ringette coaches will be required to complete Professional Development in a five year cycle and comply with the Coaches Association of Canada’s (CAC) NCCP Professional Development policy and procedures.
