2017 THEME
Our sport empowers our girls to be strong, bold and positive role models and we’ve chosen a theme to capture the speed, strength and commitment of our players and volunteers. This March, its time to “Power Up!

We are pleased to invite you to the Ontario 2017 A Provincial Ringette Championships Opening Ceremonies at the Pickering Recreation Complex (Delaney Arena) on Thursday, March 16. The complex is located at 1867 Valley Farm Rd. in Pickering. A few notes about this event:

  • During the ceremonies, we are empowering our athletes to wear their team’s colours and uniforms in the best tradition of other championship events.  Teams are encouraged to create and proudly carry an association banner when entering the rink during the athletes’ parade.
  • The maximum banner size is 60 inches wide x 36 inches high. U12 players from the Pickering Ringette Association will marshal players into the arena, and if teams so choose, these players could also carry their team banners
  • Slide Show / Photography - As part of our Opening Ceremonies, there will be a slide show presentation. All teams are being asked to submit a maximum of 5 formal or candid photos taken throughout your season. Please send these pictures asap to [email protected] asap. Please email pictures with the Subject line: Your Association Name, Provincial Team Pictures.
  •  Social Media- Now is your chance to show your spirit and start sharing your excitement about the 2017 A Provincial championships! Send your congratulations, good luck tweets and fun pictures using #PowerUpProvincials and let others know how you are preparing for the big weekend. During the opening ceremonies we will be showing these messages, along with live tweets, right there on the big screen!

NEW!!!! We are pleased to announce the Tim Horton's mobile coffee team will be on site for the Opening Ceremonies! Enjoy a free coffee or hot chocolate while you take in the festivities! (East Entrance, Pickering Recreation Complex, 4:30pm - 8:30pm)

Players, Coaches and Bench Staff
are to be dropped off at the FRONT/WEST side of the Recreation Complex.  There is a circular driveway (front/main entrance), as well as a north/west corner door, both of which lead directly to the East and West Salon Banquet Halls.  These entrance doors and the banquet halls are all very close together, and volunteers will be available to guide you, if needed. Please assemble with your team in the banquet hall and have fun while you wait for the ceremonies to begin.

NOTE FOR TEAMS- It is important that all personal belongings be taken with you from the banquet halls, through the procession, and to the arena seating. There will be no access to the banquet halls after each ceremony (i.e. you may want to travel lightly to the ceremony, leave outdoor clothing in vehicles, etc.)

Spectators- After dropping of your players, please drive to the EAST end of the building. This is where the parking lots are located. There is a paved lot and a gravel lot. There is also overflow parking at the Pickering Town Centre (just west of the Complex and within easy walking distance), and at the front/north side of the Recreation Complex. Please do not park in the small Staff Parking lot on the south side of the building.

The Opening Ceremonies will be held in the Delaney Arena, and it is important to note that spectators cannot access the arena from the front of the complex (i.e. the west side player drop-off area). Spectators should enter the event via the arena entrance at the EAST side of the building. There are stairs and a ramp leading directly to the seating area. All spectators will be ushered to the west side of the arena seating and will be guided by our volunteers. Seating is limited, so please fill all seats and don’t leave spaces. You may make a new friend as you wait for the event to begin. We expect an equal number of attendees at both events, and all athletes and their families (and fans!) are welcome to attend.

At the conclusion of the event, kindly EXIT from the EAST arena doors leading to the parking lots. There is no access within the building to the west side of the Recreation Complex. There is a sidewalk /walkway which runs on the SOUTH side of the building which can be used to walk to the Pickering Town Centre or to the Recreation Centre WEST parking lot. Teams travelling by bus should advise the bus driver to park at the Pickering Town Centre or utilize the gravel lot area.  Please exit the building and parking lots immediately after your team’s ceremony is completed. This is especially important if you are involved in the 5:45pm session as it will allow the participants in the 7:30pm session to get parked, seated and enjoy their event. Thank you for your cooperation.

NOTE: There will not be a formal team photograph taken at this event. Instead, we will be providing areas throughout the weekend for team and player photos (“selfie- stations”, photo booth, etc.)

Coaches Meeting - The coaches meeting will take place at the Pickering Recreation Complex in the O’Brien Meeting Room (enter through the EAST complex entrance; meeting room door is immediately on the right) on Wednesday, March 15 at 8:00 pm. Welcome packages will be available, and all teams must have at least 1 coach in attendance. Important information will also be shared at that time regarding the Opening Ceremonies.

Games Schedule – it is important for coaches to note there have been minor changes to the original game schedule- the revised FINAL schedule is now posted on www.score2stats.com.    Be sure to review and confirm your game times.

City of Pickering Ice Policy- As a condition of the City’s ice contracts, absolutely no one is permitted to be on the ice unless wearing a helmet (all arenas). Please ensure trainers bring a spare helmet to have on the bench at all times in case they need to attend to an injured player. Before or after games, bench staff are prohibited from stepping on the ice; however, we encourage all players to skate by the opposing team’s bench to shake hands with bench staff.

Team Jerseys- As per ORA Sanctioned Event Participant Rules (Sec. 8.2.14), teams are to have two sets of jerseys available for all games (white/ coloured).
