Youth programming begins at the U12 division* which is an introduction to a more competitive environment where associations conduct formal player evaluations. These evaluations allow clubs to group athletes by skill level (e.g. for U12, either A or B level), in order to offer programming that delivers appropriate development opportunities and play within the region, and across the province.
(*Assuming a season start date of September, players in the U12 division will have turned, or will be turning, 10 or 11 years old during the calendar year).
Ajax Pickering Ringette Youth Programs consist of league games, weekly practices and additional player development opportunities (e.g. power skating, skills development sessions). Teams also participate in local and out-of town tournaments (3-5 per year) and may participate in either year-end Regional or Provincial Championships.
A and AA Level Ringette Programs are comprised of representative teams formed through a try-out process. Participation in a A or AA-Level program requires additional commitment, and it is expected that these teams receive more ice time for games and tournaments. Teams generally participate in more than 4 or 5 tournaments in a season and there are additional costs associated to further development on and off the ice (e.g. dryland training). Tournaments and other team-based ancillary costs (e.g. optional off-ice clothing, team-building expenses) are an additional cost on top of the registration fee. AA teams may be formed at the U14, U16 and U19 age levels and typically, AA teams consist of elite level players from across Central Region i.e. Ajax Pickering, Sunderland, Whitby or Oshawa).
For the 2022-23 Season, Ajax Pickering is hosting the following A and AA-Level teams - U14A, U16A, U16AA and U19AA.
For questions about U12-U19 A and AA-level programs, please reach out to the Vice President - Ajax.
B and C Level Ringette Programs are provided for players that are looking for a more competitive game of Ringette and have previous ice skating experience. Players do not need to attend “try-outs” to participate in a B or C-Level program; the goals and focus of these programs is on fun, development, and ensuring every player that wishes to participate in the program has a place to play. Some local travel is required for away games taking place throughout the region (e.g. Whitby, Oshawa, Richmond Hill, Markham, and possibly Mississauga, Newmarket, Barrie and Sunderland), and teams usually participate in 3 or 4 weekend tournaments throughout the year (usually 1 would take place out of town i.e. overnight stay)
